Johnny Gorum , City Council Member

Mr. Gorum moved to West Wendover in February of 1993 when he was the District Manager for Fly Nevada. Since then, he has been actively involved in promoting West Wendover and its local gaming as a destination resort, presently and for the last many years serving as the Flight Program Manager for the Peppermill, Rainbow and Montego Bay Casinos, which operate daily B-737 charter flights into the community.

Mr. Gorum received his education in Oahu, Hawaii as well as San Jose City College and the United States Army in which he served four years. His interests are his family and golf.

When being asked why he wanted to be a City Council Member, Mr. Gorum replied, “I have been a resident of West Wendover for 15 years and I feel very strongly that it is time that I give something back to the community which has been so good to me. Serving as a Council Member is one such way to do just that.”

Emily Carter , City Council Member, Mayor Pro-Tem

Emily was appointed to the West Wendover City Council on February 7, 2006, filling the open vacancy left by departing Council Member Viola Troyan.

Emily and her husband moved to West Wendover in June of 1997 seeking employment opportunities.  She was hired shortly after moving to West Wendover by the Peppermill Hotel & Casino as the Human Resources Secretary and two years later, in August of 1999, was promoted to the Payroll Manager at a sister-company, the Rainbow Hotel & Casino.  In August of 2005, Emily left her employment in order to spend some time with her young children.  A year later, she returned to work in her previous position as Payroll Manager for the Rainbow Hotel & Casino.  Emily and her husband have five children with another on the way.

Emily has served on the West Wendover Elementary PTO for three years as well as serving as its President.  She has also served as a member of the Miss Wendover Scholarship Program Committee as well as being involved in various other community organizations. Emily considers herself to be very dedicated to the continued growth of the community and when asked what she most enjoys doing during her spare time, she said, "I love to spend time with my kids and their scrapbook".

Charles "Roy" Briggs, City Council Member

After many years of living and working in the San Francisco Bay area, Roy and his wife Leanna set out in search of a place where they could get away from the hectic demands of big city living.  In September of 1989, that search ended when they found West Wendover and subsequently made it their home.  Roy works in the Surveillance Department for the Peppermill, Rainbow and Montego Bay Casinos.  When time permits, Roy and his wife greatly enjoy spending time at their ranch in Pilot Valley.

"Today, West Wendover is at the threshold of what should be a very bright future.  Roy is both honored and humbled that the citizens of this community have given him this opportunity to represent their voices in the many important decisions that are in front of us as a community."

Alan B. Rowley II, City Council Member

Alan was born in Puerto Rico and has traveled around the world, living in or near some of the largest cities in the world, while trying to stay out of politics.  Now he finds himself in West Wendover on the City Council.  He chose to live in West Wendover after a brief visit because the people of the city were so nice to him and his family.  In 2006, Alan took an interest in politics at a national level and in 2008 felt that he should get involved at the local level as well.  Alan's background has always included public service such as his experience working in law enforcement in northern Utah.  Today he enjoys applying those same skills as Chief of Security at the Montego Bay Casino and as a City Council Member.

Alan states, "the role of government is to maintain a sense of order and safety and provide essential services to the community it serves.  Other than these broad duties, the City should try its best to stay out of the way and let enterprising and productive people do what they do best.  When laws need to be enacted, they should be done carefully and with a sense of fairness to every citizen in the city."

One truth has been made apparent to Alan since taking part in the political process.  He comments, "while the government has the responsibility to serve the people of a city, it can't do so without the active participation of the people that it serves.  People need to voice their opinions and hold their elected officials accountable.  I would like to invite everyone to attend the City Council meetings and take part.  The City of West Wendover has a bright future and that future is yours.  Please attend and help shape the future of your City."
