Born in Elko, Nevada and raised in Wells, Nevada, Ron grew up in the law enforcement community with his father being the Chief of Police for Wells. He was continually in the company of police officers and notably his grandfather was the Constable in Wells during the Great Depression.
Ron entered the U.S. Navy in 1974 and served aboard the U.S.S. Midway stationed in Japan for two years and then the Philippines until he was honorably discharged in 1979.
Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, Ron moved to Buhl, Idaho where he began his career in law enforcement with the Buhl Police Department, where he ultimately was promoted to sergeant. After three years in Buhl, in 1982, he moved to Elko, Nevada and began work for the Elko Police Department along side his father, who was as well working for the Elko Police Department. His father retired a few years later and Ron recalls the great opportunity he had in working in the same department along side his Dad.
In 1991, Ron began working for the Elko County Sheriff's Department and was promoted to Detective in 1992 and shortly thereafter became specialized in the area of child abuse investigations. In 1997, he was assigned to the Juvenile Crimes Task Force, a new unit that was responsible for serious juvenile crimes and gang activity. Child abuse investigations were also an assignment of the task force. Ron was responsible for the building of that crime unit and today it is still in operation combating juvenile crime issues throughout Elko County. In 2004, Ron was promoted to Patrol Lieutenant, making him responsible for the supervision of the patrol division of the Sheriff's Office. In March 2005, he was assigned to the West Wendover Police Department as Interim Chief of Police and subsequently was selected and appointed as the West Wendover Chief of Police.
Ron says, "As a result of that last assignment, it appears that I became one of the many who have either been stranded here or came on a temporary basis and decided to stay."
