The West Wendover Police Department was formed on July 1, 1991 , and is under the direction of Chief Richard V. Weighall. In the beginning, the department consisted of six sworn officers and two civilian technicians. Over time the department has kept pace with the growth of the community and today, includes fifteen sworn officers and seven civilian technicians operating five divisions: Administration, Patrol, Investigation, Animal Control and Dispatch. In recent years, the department has fostered and implemented such civic programs as: Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.), Police Activities League (P.A.L.), which provides sports activities for local youth, Neighborhood Watch programs, Honor Guard and most recently the Police Explorer program.
