At the Regular City Council Meeting of November 15^th newly Elected Officials were sworn in to office.

Prior to the Oath of Office being taken, outgoing Mayor Emily Carter gave her last remarks as the City’s Mayor and thanked all who supported her through her 10 years of public service, first as a Council Member beginning in 2006 and finally as the City’s Mayor starting in 2012.  Emily commented on how far the City has come in the last decade mentioning the many projects that have been completed or those now underway which will benefit the community for decades to come such as new streets and street beautification work, the new $11 million Waste Water Facility, the new Public Works Facility, Leppy Hills trails, the construction of the City Hall as well as school projects such as the new West Wendover Elementary School.   Also mentioned were commercial enterprises such as Lee’s Discount Liquor and Grease Monkey Auto Service Center that will soon be part of the city’s business landscape. 

Emily ended her remarks by saying, “what I will miss the most is interacting with City Council Members, Department Heads and City Staff on a regular basis.  The greatest part of serving has allowed me not only to be the Mayor but to also become friends with many of you.  Your commitment and service to make our city great cannot be appreciated with a simple thank you. And, while I will attempt, I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that I appreciate the time, energy and the commitment that goes into making our city the place that it is.  Thank you for all that you do, all that you are, your commitment has not gone unnoticed and I have been blessed to serve with you.”

After Emily’s remarks she turned the time over to Judge Brian Boatman who directed the Oath of Office to our new Mayor, Daniel Corona (pictured above).   Mayor Corona then took his seat at the dais which was followed by the Oath of Office for Council Members Nick Flores and Jerry Anderson (right), both of whom won re-election. 

With the new members sworn in, Mayor Daniel Corona continued with the meeting, his first of many to come.  In taking his new position, Mayor Corona remarked, “I am tremendously grateful to the voters of West Wendover for giving me this amazing opportunity. I believe to be successful we must work together and that it is the responsibility of the City Government to reach out to, and work with, the community we represent.  I look forward to serving you these next four years and working with the members of the City Council as well as City Staff. My door is always open and I am constantly looking for input from community members so please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or input as I do work for you.” 

Congratulations to Mayor Corona and to re-elected Council Members Nick Flores and Jerry Anderson for their efforts to continue to serve our great community.  And, we wish former Mayor Emily Carter best wishes for her future.
