“Wendover in Lights, 25^th Anniversary”

The City of West Wendover opened the holidays on December 2^nd with the 25^th Anniversary of the “Wendover in Lights” the annual lighting of the City Christmas Tree held at West Wendover City Hall.

Opening the event was City Manager Chris Melville with local children counting down the lighting of the 15-foot City Hall Christmas Tree.

The Christmas Invocation was given by Pastor Chris Lund, followed by Mayor Daniel Corona welcoming local citizens to this year’s event.

After the lighting of the Christmas Tree and all the Christmas scenes around City Hall, the event moved to the Council Chamber for performances by the West Wendover Recreation District Dance Academy led by instructor Barrie Sharp. It was started off by the Sweet & Sassy (4 & 5 year olds) dancing to “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas”. Then came the Dancing Dynamos (6 to 8 year olds) performing to “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”. Wrapping up was The Razzle-N-Dazzle (9 to 11 year olds) dance group with “I’m Gonna Email Santa”.

West Wendover Elementary Music Club, directed by Lynette Parker finished out the night’s performance with a Welcome Poem by Kaylee Richards. Emily Carter then recited, “Twas then Night before Christmas”, with the 3^rd Grade performing “Oh Hanukah”, “Silent Night” and Feliz Navidad” all while the 6^th Grade played tone chimes in the background.  

A community sing-a-long rounded out the performances as children young and old sang “Here Comes Santa Clause.” Santa then arrived to listen to children’s gift requests and each child receives a Candy filled stocking and orange.

A Special Thanks to the City employees, whose donated time and setup allows this event to take place each and every year… 25 to be exact.
