On December 6^th at the Regular City Council Meeting, Mayor Corona made his appointment of several Ordinance Officers of the City. All the appointments were ratified by unanimous vote of the City Council.  

Continuing in their current positions are:   Chris J. Melville, City Manager/Director Community Development; Bryce Kimber, Jr., Director of Public Works; Anna Bartlome, City Clerk/Records Retention Officer and Michelle Giovo, Chief Financial Officer.  For each of the appointments Mayor Corona acknowledged their past work and success as assets of and for the City and noted his desire that they continue that good work in moving the community forward.  The individuals then received their Oath of Office by Municipal Judge Brian Boatman. 

There were two additional Ordinance Officers which Mayor Corona did not re-appoint, those being Fire Chief Jeff Knudtson and Police Chief Burdel Welsh.  This was due to a conflict of interest which the Mayor has in regards to the Police Department and Fire Department as his parents are employed within those Departments and under the supervision of those Ordinance Officers.  Thus such action by the Mayor would violate Nevada Law in regards to Elected Officials Ethics and Conduct.  The Mayor did remark that if he could, he would gladly make those re-appointments for the Fire Chief and Chief of Police given he believes they are the right persons to continue in those jobs.   The two positions are thus considered “hold over appointments” and will operate with the authority granted them by their previous appointments under former Mayor Emily Carter which were ratified by the City Council in 2012.
