Post Date:08/22/2018 3:47 PM

Captain J. Loncar service plaque 8-22-2018Fire Captain Jeremy Loncar gave his notice of resignation in early August with his last day at the West Wendover Fire Department being August 24, 2018.

Jeremy began his career as a Volunteer Fire Fighter with West Wendover in 1995.  After being hired as a Public Works Technician for West Wendover initially in 1997, a career position of Fire Captain came open in the Fire Department to which Jeremy applied for and was transferred into in 1998 working directly under Fire Chief Jeff Knudtson.  He has held this position to present.

Captain Loncar has served the community well over the past 21 years.  He has helped the Fire Department to become better trained and equipped while at the same time assisting firefighters from all over Nevada as an Adjunct Instructor for the State Fire Marshall’s Office, a very highly regarded position.   This of course is in addition to the regular interaction and education he has had within the community including our youth teaching them about fire safety and the risks of fire.

Captain Loncar is not leaving the family of Fire Fighters but rather, he is taking on a new challenge and one that will surely be of benefit to the many communities within Nevada.  He was offered and accepted the position of Battalion Chief for the Storey County Fire District near Reno, Nevada.   As the Battalion Chief, he will be over five stations with 8 career firefighters and 3 seasonal firefighters under his command during shift.  The Storey County Fire District has 36 firefighters total with their A, B and C shifts combined working a 48/96 hour schedule.  This type of schedules means they work 48 hours straight and then are off for 4 days.

Battalion Chief Loncar will be working out of Station 1 which is the headquarters station and is located in Virginia City.  Station 2 is located in the Virginia Highlands area, Station 3 in Mark Twain, Station 4 is in Lockwood and Station 5 is located at the Tahoe-Reno Industrial Complex.  Though he will be working out of the headquarters, he will routinely make rounds to see how his firefighters are doing and to provide resupply of equipment as necessary.  Battalion Chief Loncar will be working directly under Fire Chief Jeff Nevin.

We wish to congratulate Jeremy on his new career move and wish him the very best of success and thank him for his 21 years of dedicated employment service to the city and community of West Wendover!
