28th Annual City Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Held

Post Date:12/10/2019 9:45 AM

3The City of West Wendover kicked-off the holiday season with “Wendover in Lights” the 28th Annual Communities Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday December 6th.  The event as usual was held at the West Wendover City Hall located at 1111 N. Gene L. Jones Way.

Opening the event was City Manager Chris Melville with local children counting down the lighting of the City Hall Christmas Tree. Pastor Jorge Espinoza from the West Wendover Christian Center gave the Christmas Invocation followed by Mayor Daniel Corona who welcomed everyone to this year’s event.

After the tree lighting, the West Wendover Elementary 3rd Grade Music Club led by teacher Ms. Brown, performed in the Council Chamber.  Four songs were on their list including:  “Just One Candle”, one of the crowds favorites, “Don’t Eat a Poinsettia”, “Noche Buena” and finally “It’s A Holiday”.

A community sing-a-long of Santa Clause Is Coming To Town, rounded out the performances.  Santa Claus was transported from his sleigh to the West Wendover City Hall where he sat in his grand chair listening to children’s gift requests.  After speaking and getting their picture with Santa, each child received a Christmas stocking full of favorite candies along with a healthy sweet orange.

We would like to thank Ms. Brown and the WWES 3rd Grade Music Club for participating in this years event and, a special thanks to the employees of the city’s Public Works Department and Administration who put on the event each year, and ensure the community’s Christmas decorations including the City Christmas Tree are shining bright with special care and proudly displayed to help bring the feeling of wonder to this part of the year.  The event would not happen without their time and commitment.
