At the Regular City Council Meeting of January 17^th, Police Officers Juan Carlos Lopez and Michael Torres took their Oath of Office after completing their Nevada law enforcement certifications and related training.

Officer Lopez started his employment with the West Wendover Police Department in May of 2022. He immediately began his field training and then attended the Nevada Peace Officer Standards & Training Academy. Officer Lopez graduated from the police academy on November 10, 2022. Officer Lopez grew up in our community and graduated from West Wendover High School. Prior to joining the West Wendover Police Department, he worked for several years as a security team member in casino operations. Officer Lopez is currently assigned to Patrol.

Officer Torres started his employment with the West Wendover Police Department in July of 2022. He had previous experience with the Wendover Police Department and was a certified police officer in Utah. Officer Torres recently completed the Nevada P.O.S.T. reciprocity process successfully and is now a certified police officer in Nevada. Officer Torres grew up in West Valley, Utah, and has been a member of our community for over a year. Officer Torres is currently assigned to Patrol.

When asked about the ceremony, West Wendover Chief of Police Cal Kunz said, "It is always a great day to see police officers being sworn in. Officer Lopez has spent many years establishing a positive reputation within our community. He has a good attitude and serves as an example for others. Officer Torres has quickly become a valuable member of our community. He is very willing to learn and has a desire to serve others. Both these officers will undoubtedly have a positive impact on our department and the community."
