At the Regular City Council Meeting of January 17th, K-9 Officer Astro was officially retired from his duties as a West Wendover Police K-9 Officer.
Astro has been working with his partner, Officer Fernando Uribe since February of 2018. During his time with the West Wendover Police Department he has assisted with numerous searches for illicit narcotics, one of his largest seizures including over 24 pounds of methamphetamine and over 2 pounds of heroin.
Over the past several years, Officer Uribe and Astro have spent countless hours training and working together and their efforts have had a significant impact on reducing the amount of illicit drugs coming into our community.
Astro has been formally adopted by his partner, Officer Uribe and will enjoy his retirement with him and his family.
As part of the formal retirement ceremony, Astro was presented with a retirement plaque showing our appreciation of his loyal service. We wish him the best and are thankful for his service to our community.
