On August 9, 2023, West Wendover Fire Captain Daniel “Danny” Kim received his 15-year service award by City Manager Chris Melville.

Captain Kim began working for the City July 1, 2008 as a Fire Fighter.  In 2018 he received a promotion to Fire Captain, the position he continues to hold today.

When asked about Danny’s service to the community City Manager Melville commented, “What an extraordinary person Danny is.  His commitment and dedication to the City’s fire service is without question.  He takes on so many extra duties such as helping to educate and inform our community including his work with our youth about not just being a Fire Fighter but being responsible and safe.  Additionally, he is the City’s StormReady Coordinator, working closely with the National Weather Service as well as other State entities in regard to our community’s preparedness and monitoring.  Just as an example, most recently he assisted and coordinated with the Desert Research Institute, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) in installing an air quality monitoring station here at City Hall.  That system provides atmospheric data back to NOAA regarding local air quality in and around West Wendover including atmospheric particulates associated with the smoke from wild land fires.  We all know this type of condition has been intense at times over the last few years with fires throughout the west.  Of course, it goes without saying, Danny is always as sharp as a tack both in mind and attire along with his sly humor.  What an outstanding representative of our organization and community.”

In addition to his service plaque, Captain Kim also received a service pin designed with the City Seal.  The pin reflects the employee's years of service with a star for every five years they have served.  As well, he received a $25 Smith's Food Store Gift Card.
