Karen Floyd_Charlotte Jones copyOn October 5, 2023, two great employees of the City of West Wendover received their years of service awards from City Manager Chris Melville.

Charlotte Jones, Accounting Technician, received her 15-year service award.  Charlotte began her career with the city on October 13, 2008.   She has worked in various capacities as an Administrative Accounting Technician and through the years has covered various operations including reception and cash receipting and most recently being in charge of the city’s utility accounts.  When asked, Charlotte says she enjoys the utility accounting most as it keeps things interesting and gives her those challenges she enjoys taking on.

Karen Floyd, Administrative Clerk Community Development/Welcome Center, received her 10-year service award.  Karen began her employment with the city on September 23, 2013 and has enjoyed working at our Welcome Center where she assists visitors of every background with information about our city, our area and our great state of Nevada.  Karen also assists part time with the city’s HR Department.   When asked about her position, Karen says she loves the variety of work she does on a daily basis and enjoys the people she works with and those she meets each and every day.

City Manager Melville said, “I remember the pleasure of interviewing both of these great ladies for their jobs here at the city and I consider myself lucky to have known each of them for more than forty years.   Karen of course has always been a wonderful mentor and guidance to me, going way back to when she was our wonderful Librarian at the Wendover High School when I was just a snot nosed kid looking for those books on how to create havoc in the world.  Of course, one of those students who was actually instigating the havoc was another younger rabble-rouser whose name happened to be Charlotte; who I recall really enjoyed raising a ruckus in the back of the bus with her friends… Charlotte, you honestly think I could ever forget?   But in all seriousness, this organization and community could have no two better dedicated, friendly and caring public servants then Charlotte and Karen.  I consider myself lucky that they are part of our team here at the city doing great work day in and day out, assisting the public and trying to make our community a better place.  Thank you both!”

In addition to their service plaques, Charlotte and Karen also received service pins designed with the City Seal.  The pins reflect the employee's years of service with a star for every five years they have served.  As well, they each received a $25 Smith's Food Store Gift Card.

Congratulations Charlotte and Karen on jobs well done!
