State Infrastructure Bank Approves Financing to Enhance Public Safety in West Wendover

CARSON CITY, NV — Today, Nevada State Treasurer Zach Conine announced that the Nevada State Infrastructure Bank (“Bank”) approved $1,750,000 in gap financing to the City of West Wendover to enhance public safety for the community. 

The West Wendover Fire Station and Emergency Operations Center, which was approved during yesterday’s Board of Directors for the Bank meeting, will be an 11,300 square foot facility located adjacent to the existing City Hall.  

This project is vital to increasing public safety for residents and businesses in West Wendover since the existing fire station was constructed in the 1980’s and is severely outdated. 

“Over the last two years, we have worked to build the State Infrastructure Bank as a tool to move projects forward that could not otherwise have gotten off the ground,” said Treasurer Zach Conine. “Because of this work, the residents of West Wendover will now receive the public safety services they deserve.” 

“I would like to thank the State Infrastructure Bank for providing a loan to the city of West Wendover to build a fire station and public safety center,” said Tom Burns, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “GOED’s Community Development Block Grant program contributed $525,000 to leverage $7 million for this downtown infrastructure project and another $500,000 specifically for the fire station. The action by the State Infrastructure Bank today is an important step forward for the West Wendover community.” 

The total cost of the project is $13,682,068, of which the City of West Wendover has already secured $11,932,068 through a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development. 

The Bank’s $1,750,000 loan will serve as final gap financing for the project and is being secured by the full faith and credit of the City of West Wendover. 

It is expected that this project will result in 98 construction and development jobs with an average wage of $53.84/hour. Additionally, the project is expected to create 16 full-time fire department personnel positions with an average wage of $40.77/hour. 

As with all projects funded through the Bank, the project will be built according to the strongest labor and environmental standards possible.
