USDA RD Announces Over $9 Million in Funding for New Fire Station in City of West Wendover

CARSON CITY, Jan. 25, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Nevada State Director Lucas Ingvoldstad today announced funding in the form of a $8.9 million loan and a $200,000 grant for the new West Wendover Fire Station and Emergency Operations Center in the City of West Wendover through the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program. Since 2018, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $4.4 million in West Wendover. These investments have encouraged economic development and community wellbeing in the area, including a major infrastructural expansion of downtown West Wendover.

This Rural Development investment will be used for the development of the West Wendover Fire Station.  This project will allow the phasing out of a small, outdated, leased facility. The larger fire station facility will allow the City of West Wendover to adequately provide essential emergency services to the community.

The Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program provides affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas. An essential community facility is defined as a facility that provides an essential service to the local community for the orderly development of the community in a primarily rural area, and does not include private, commercial, or business undertakings.
