Last week, Mayor Jasie Holm and Council Member Gabi Soriano attended the National League of Cities meeting in Washington, D.C.  The visit was not only to take in the learning opportunities and briefings from the National League of Cities on all sorts of municipal matters, but as well to visit with our Congressional Delegation.

One such visit was a great conversation the two enjoyed with Nevada’s Senator Jacky Rosen.   The meeting included a general discussion of what was happening at the Federal Government level and as always Senator Rosen wanted to get up to speed with what was happening in West Wendover.  After all, she has displayed in her office a large photograph of…you guessed it… Wendover Will, whom she just adores.   As part of the conversation Senator Rosen had some special news to share with Mayor Holm and Council Member Soriano.   Through the Congressionally Directed Spending program for fiscal year 2024, two of the grants submitted by West Wendover had been included in the spending bills which were about to be signed by President Biden.

These grants which the city applied for in the spring of 2023 included a grant to help rehabilitate the 3-Mile Water Reservoir for $209,000 and a grant for $3,710,000 for the Downtown Development Phase 2 project which is for the construction of the Utility and Public Restroom Facility and Splash Pad which will serve as a focal point in the newly completed Downtown.

“One of my top priorities as a senator for Nevada is to deliver federal resources and funding for our local and rural communities,” said Senator Rosen. “After securing nearly $4 million for critical projects for the City of West Wendover, I had the pleasure of meeting with Mayor Jasie Holm to discuss how we can continue working together to improve the quality of life for hardworking Nevada families in West Wendover.”
