K-9 Officer "Lady" Joins West Wendover Police Department

Post Date:06/12/2024 4:08 PM

K-9 LadyThe West Wendover Police Department is pleased to announce the newest member of its staff. “Lady” is a 19-month-old black Labrador Retriever who will be joining our K-9 unit.

Lady comes from Gold Coast K9 located in Moorpark, Southern California. Gold Coast K9 has a twenty-acre training facility. The facility is specifically designed to condition, test, and train dogs for their unique environments, from private family protection companions to Military/Police working dogs.

Lady had already begun her training journey with Gold Coast K9 as an illicit narcotics detection dog. Lady will also receive tracking training in the near future.

Lady was recently given her name by the students at West Wendover Elementary School. The school held an assembly on June 03, 2024, to give the students the opportunity to meet our new dog. The 351 students who attended were given three names to choose from on a voting ballot. The winning name was Lady.

Lady along with her partner, K-9 handler, Officer Luis Perez, have attended and completed a two-week 80 hour-training program at Gold Coast, in Moorpark, California where both have been successfully certified in the detection of narcotics.

Lady and Officer Perez continue to train in West Wendover on a daily basis.  Officer Perez and K9 Lady anticipate attending further training, to expand their knowledge and certifications.

Lady will fill the opening created when our K-9 Officer Vigo retired. We now once again have two K-9 Officers, Chase and Lady.
