During the month of July, three employees of the City of West Wendover received their years of service awards from City Manager Chris Melville.
Maria Chavez Rodriguez, Part Time Firefighter, received her 5-year service award. Maria began working as a Part Time Firefighter in May of 2019. City Manager Chris Melville said, Maria takes great pride in being a Firefighter and most importantly in serving her community in such a way. Though a dangerous occupation, Maria does it with great intent knowing ultimately such work can save lives. Next time you see Maria out and about in the community, please be sure to thank her for her service.”
Yesenia Pacheco, Deputy Court Clerk 3, received her 10-year service award. Yesenia first came on board with the City in 2013 as a Deputy Court Clerk 2 with the West Wendover Municipal Court and Eastline Justice Court. She then moved over to the Elko Justice Court in early 2017 but then returned to to West Wendover in mid 2017. In August of 2023 Yesenia was promoted to the position she currently holds, Deputy Court Clerk 3. Later in August, Yesenia will be moving over to the City’s Community Development Department as an Administrative Assistant, a position which she applied and was chosen for back in June. When asked about Yesenia joining the Community Development Department, Deputy Community Development Director Cutter Love said, “I am very excited to have Yesenia join us in the Community Development Department, she has a unique set of skills that she will be able to continue to apply and assist in keeping the department running efficiently and effectively. Welcome aboard Yesenia!”
Heather Murphy, Accounting Tech, received her 10-year service award. Heather began her career with the City in July of 2014. Heather is one of those smiling faces you will see if you come in to the Admin/Utility counter at City Hall. Always pleasant and ready to help. In addition to the front reception and processing of utility payments Heather also handles the city’s accounts payable and assists with keeping up on administration supplies and payroll. When asked about working for the City, Heather remarked, “working for the City is great, and we have a great community full of promise, who wouldn’t want to be part of that.” Well said Heather.
Thanks to all three great employees!
In addition to their service plaques, Maria, Yesenia and Heather also received service pins designed with the City Seal. The pins reflect the employee's years of service with a star for every five years they have served. As well, they each received a $25 Smith's Food Store Gift Card.
Congratulations Maria, Yesenia and Heather. Job well done!
