At the Regular City Council Meeting of November 19, 2024, City Clerk Anna Bartlome gave the Oath of Office to Mayor Jasie Holm and Council Members Nick Flores and Robert Trujillo who were all re-elected for 4-year terms at the General Election held on November 5, 2024.
Mayor Holm said, “I am honored and grateful to be the West Wendover Mayor. First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to my family who has shown unwavering support and has been the backbone throughout my political journey. During the next four years I look forward to working with the City Council, City of West Wendover, and our community to bring future business, services, and recreation to our community.”
Council Member Nick Flores in response to the election said, “Being re-elected is truly an honor and I am very grateful to the wonderful people of West Wendover for their vote. Seeing West Wendover grow with new businesses and providing opportunities for our residents is truly a motivation to continue to work hard for our community.”
Council Member Robert Trujillo remarked, “I am excited to be able to serve another four-year term! Being a part of projects that started long before I came into office and seeing them now coming to the finish line such as the 4,000-acre land conveyance from the federal government to the city is exciting. The West Wendover Downtown inauguration that I was also a part of with the hard work of our city manager and other previous elected officials before me. I foresee more infrastructure with our new fire station building and a boys and girls club coming to our community in the future along with other projects. Again, thank you for re-electing me as one of your city council members and feel free to stop me with questions or concerns anytime.”
A bit of local election trivia:
There is usually a question from some in the public about why our elected officials of the City of West Wendover take office so soon after an election, versus what they see at the national level and in other locations which can occur in January. Well, under Nevada Law (NRS 293C) and West Wendover City Code 1-14-1(C), for the elected officials of the City of West Wendover the requirement is that those elected are seated at the next Regular City Council Meeting following the canvassing of the vote of the General Election. The canvassing of the vote this year occurred on November 14th, thus the seating of those elected is required to occur at the next Regular City Council Meeting which occurred on November 19th.
