The City of West Wendover held its Annual Wendover in Lights Christmas Tree Lighting program on Friday December 6th which included lighting the City’s Christmas Tree as well as the Holiday Displays at City Hall and the Welcome Center.
The Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the event was the City’s Deputy Community Development Director Cutter Love with Council Member Nick Flores and Gabi Soriano welcoming the community and expressing their excitement for the holiday season.
The program featured the countdown of lighting the City’s Christmas Tree led by Mr. Love along with the children present. With Santa’s elves and a bit of assistance from city staff and with a touch of magic of the season, the tree was lit in brilliant colors showcasing its beauty.
The 3rd Grade Choir from the West Wendover Elementary School, led by Music Teacher Ms. Heather Brown and assistant Lizbeth Macedo did an amazing job singing for the community and their parents. They performed three wonderful holiday songs including: “Just One Candle”, “Noche Buena” and It’s a Holiday”.
At the end of the children’s performances, they along with city staff and the entire audience did a community sing along of “Santa Clause is Coming to Town”.
But oh, that certainly was not the end. Any great Christmas program would of course not be complete without a visit from Santa Claus himself; besides, his elves were already running around on the loose. Like clockwork, Santa swooshed in on a blazing red sleigh to the side of City Hall having his team of reindeer coming to a full stop so he could spend some time with all of the children, hearing their tales and stories and their wishes for Christmas gifts.
City staff reported with awkward amazement, after watching the last child leave Santa’s lap, that he gave a wink of his eye then a grin crossed his lips, he snapped his fingers and vanished in a sparkle of bliss. He then reappeared at the bow of his sleigh reigns in hand whistling and cheering… Well you know what he said…
“Now, Dasher! Now, Dancer! now Prancer and Vixen! On, Comet! On Cupid! on, Donner and Blitzen! To the top of that porch! To the top of that wall! Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all! And, like a rocket they flew, blasting pass Wendover Will, with a final exclamation as they went out of sight, “Happy Christmas to all and to all a good-night!”
The Mayor, City Council and City Employees wish the entire community a heartfelt and joyous Holiday Season!
