2024 Northeast Nevada Regional Development Authority (NNRDA) Bullseye Community Award
The NNRDA Bullseye Community Award honors a community that exemplifies excellence in economic development and strategic initiative execution. These "Bullseye Communities" are proactive in their approach, embracing a "can-do" attitude and overcoming obstacles rather than being deterred by potential challenges. They foster strong partnerships with NNRDA and collaborate effectively with regional communities, embodying the philosophy that a rising tide lifts all ships.
Bullseye Communities are not constrained by the status quo. Instead, they innovate and adapt, addressing barriers such as outdated regulations or ordinances to pave the way for economic growth. These communities foster a team environment where civic leaders, staff, and their citizens work in unison to ensure progress and innovation. Mission-driven and goal-oriented, these communities acquire targets and, with determination and precision, hit the bullseye.
The City of West Wendover, Nevada. West Wendover stands as a shining example of transformative community development, making it a deserving recipient of the NNRDA Bullseye Community Award. Under the steadfast leadership of City Manager Chris Melville, the city has achieved a remarkable milestone with its $7 million Downtown Infrastructure Project, a transformative initiative 20 years in the making. Melville's vision and persistence have spearheaded this effort, bringing together an impressive coalition of funding from entities such as the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (CDBG), USDA Rural Development, U.S. Economic Development Administration, and private partners like Nevada Gold Mines.
This project not only introduces a long-awaited downtown core to West Wendover but also creates a hub for business, culture, and community engagement, revitalizing the city’s identity and unlocking new economic opportunities. The development encompasses retail, dining, community spaces, and infrastructure improvements, all designed to enrich the quality of life for residents and attract investment.
Melville’s leadership embodies the essence of a "Bullseye Community," as he has fostered collaboration, pursued ambitious goals, and transformed challenges into opportunities. His commitment to breaking the status quo and delivering a vibrant downtown demonstrates a mission-oriented approach that aligns perfectly with the award’s criteria. West Wendover’s achievements under his guidance exemplify the spirit of economic development and innovation, making the city a beacon for regional growth and community pride.
