Wendover WillFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WEST WENDOVER, NV — This Memorial Day, West Wendover will feature a somber and powerful new tribute. The City, in partnership with the Historic Wendover Airfield Museum, is proud to announce the “142 Fallen” Field of Honor display, located at the iconic “Wendover Will” monument.

From May 18 through May 25, 2026, 142 American flags will be placed in a respectful grid within the landscaped grass surrounding Wendover Will. Each flag represents a serviceman who lost his life in training accidents at the Wendover Army Air Force Base during World War II and the subsequent Cold War era.

Honoring a Local Legacy

While Wendover Will is a symbol of the area’s vibrant spirit, this display serves to remind residents and travelers of the area’s critical role in American history. The 142 individuals honored made the ultimate sacrifice while stationed right here in our community, preparing for missions that secured the nation's freedom.

Youth Leadership in Action

The project is being led Historic Wendover Airfield Museum Board of Directors member and former West Wendover Mayor, Emily Carter, and executed by the Wendover Area High School Students Under supervision, these students will handle the installation of the flags.

"This display serves as a powerful visual reminder of our area’s importance to the freedom of our nation," said a representative from the Historic Wendover Airfield Museum. "By involving our local students, we ensure that the legacy of these 142 airmen continues to be honored by the next generation."
