The City Council, at its Regular Meeting of April 19, 2016, Accepted and Awarded the Florence Way Phase 2 Project to Whitaker Construction Company out of Brigham City, Utah.

The City received four final bids for the project, Whitaker being the low bidder.

“The official Notice of Award will be forthcoming in the next week”, said City Manager Chris Melville.  “We are doing a final review of the bid documents to ensure completeness and will also be sending the documents to Nevada DOT and Nevada CDBG for their review this week”.

The project will include the construction of a new section of Florence Way from Camper Drive to Mesa Street providing a complete streets connection from Wendover Boulevard to the new West Wendover Elementary School and Laguna Drive.  Florence Way Phase 1 (Wendover Boulevard to Camper Drive) was completed several years ago and Florence Way Phase 3 (Mesa Street to Laguna Drive) is currently being completed as part of the new West Wendover Elementary School Project. 

The project construction bid amount total was $1,852,693 which was $110,000 below the engineer’s estimate.  Funding for the project is provided by the City of West Wendover/Elko County RTC as well as $1 million in grant by the Nevada Department of Transportation Enhancement program and Nevada Community Development Block Grant program; those funds were awarded to the city last year for the project.

Work is scheduled to begin in early June with completion of the project by the end of August.
